Mrs Hook, our Librarian, updates us on library happenings
My first term as librarian is flying by! I have received a warm Westbourne welcome and am delighted to see so many children reading for pleasure, both in the library and around the school grounds.
I have really enjoyed getting to know our readers and particularly loved their enthusiasm for our 'book detective' sessions, which turns getting to know the library into a fun game, helping children discover where to find their next great read.
I worked with pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 in their weekly library sessions on an acrostic poem in the run up to National Poetry Day. It resulted in many, many brilliant poems, including this one written and read by one of our Year 5 pupils, BV, which was inspired by seeing the eagles of Alaska.

The Puppets of Spelhorst by Kate DiCamillo
A charming story about five puppets who find themselves together in an abandoned trunk and are carried off into the adventure of a lifetime. A wonderful, short tale, great for newly confident readers.
