West Wittering Beach was invaded by a vibrant crew of Year 2 pirates for a morning of pirate games, songs and spectacular beach art. They looked resplendent dressed in smuggler gear, complete with eye patches, striped shirts and pirate hats.
The children have spent the term fully immersed in their Water Worlds topic, deep diving into oceans of the world and discovering coral reefs, as well as learning about rivers, ponds and streams.
At the beach, their learning came to life and you could see bustling hubs of 'pirate crews' collaborating on beach art, which drew inspiration from the deep-sea creatures they had learnt so much about.
Mini pirates ran hither and thither gathering driftwood, stones, seaweed and shells that were just the right shape for their picture or sculpture.
"I collected seaweed for my mermaid’s hair and used a cuttlefish for her mouth! It is so much fun making giant pictures on the sand"
